Taveau Church

Community Engagement

On October 19th, we hosted a Cordesville Community Tour and Input session, where residents received a tour and project update for potential uses of Taveau Church post-restoration. This conversation was facilitated by The Asiko Group and emphasized future planning and sustainability.

Since our purchase of the church in June 2023 from the UMC, we have raised $600,000 in grant funding towards its emergency stabilization. Having completed that work, we are are now eager to engage community residents, in partnership with The Asiko Group, to determine the best use of Taveau, prioritizing its future planning and sustainability.

If you missed the October 19th session, the following Community Open House hours will be offered:

- Friday, November 8th, 10am - 12Noon

- Saturday, November 9th, 10am - 12Noon

MARK YOUR CALENDARS and join us on Saturday, November 16th, 10am - 12Noon, at Truth Tabernacle Inc. (1169 Old Church Rd, Cordesville) to compile final recommendations for how Taveau Church can best serve the community. More details can be found here.

This project received funding from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, with support from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., The South Carolina Department of Archives and History State Grant Fund, and Berkeley County Tourism.

End-of-Year

Appeal

Notecards by Gaye Sanders Fisher

This year has been historic in the life of Preservation South Carolina as an organization. We have been successful in receiving state and county funding for Taveau Church, the Dawkins House, and Pottersville. In all, more than $1.3 million has been received in the last 12 months. While we celebrate such a remarkable outcome, we are mindful that all of that funding is project-based support. Our core efforts, listed below, rely on the private sector.

            - Advocate for historic preservation;

            - Build coalitions around the state;

            - Identify and intervene for endangered properties;

            - Promote the benefits of historic preservation across the state;

We appreciate your past support and would be grateful for your continued support of Preservation South Carolina. We hope you consider making a tax deductible year-end gift.

Gifts of $100 or more will receive TWO boxes of notecards (six cards per box, envelopes included) featuring the work of Charleston watercolor artist, Gaye Sanders Fisher.
