Over the last year, your support has allowed us to continue our mission of preserving and protecting SC's architectural heritage. Here are a few highlights from this year, made possible with your support.

Judge Thomas Dawkins House | | For the first time in Preservation SC's 33-year history, the state has allocated funds to help us preserve South Carolina's vital architectural history, with $300,000 toward the Dawkins House project in Union, and $500,000 toward our Revolving Fund.
This funding would not be possible without the help of our dedicated supporters and the leaders of Union, Spartanburg, and York counties, specifically Representatives Dennis Moss and Doug Gilliam, who were instrumental in helping us secure the funding. Learn more here.

African American Heritage Program
| In late June, 2023, and with the full support of the congregation, its ministers, and the Taveau Legacy Committee, we purchased historic Taveau from the UMC Conference. | | | |
Taveau is a remarkable example of a rural black church with rich history that has survived the test of time. For over 125 years Taveau was an active place of worship and community gathering space. Thanks to a grant from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, and Berkeley County Tourism, Preservation SC is to begin stabilization. Preservation SC and the greater Cordesville community wish to preserve Taveau and its history for future generations, and to make it an active and engaging place.
"We are grateful for the partnership with Preservation South Carolina which, literally, comes at the last hour. The next hurricane or high windstorm in the Lowcountry could have been the end of this important landmark and we didn’t want another plaque where there needed to be a landmark." – Cynthia Gibbs of Taveau Legacy Committee. Community Development Program
| We are pleased to share that we are negotiating a sale with a developer, with engagement of the town, for a historic adaptive reuse of the Edgefield Hotel that will greatly benefit Edgefield. We hope to announce a groundbreaking project in early 2024. | | | |
In 2017, a leading Edgefield citizen donated the hotel to Preservation SC with one request: that the historic property be integrated back into the town as a boutique hotel. Learn more here.

“Growing up, as a little Black girl in rural Pickens County, I never dreamed that one day I would have the chance to stand with the Governor of my state and be recognized for anything,” said Mable Owens Clarke, 2023 Governor’s Award Recipient.
Please join us in congratulating the 2023 South Carolina Historic Preservation Award recipients. Learn more here.
